Let’s Eat: Chuy’s – Houston

After a full day at the rodeo, we needed some dinner.

Where I’m from (the Philadelphia area) you can get the best Italian food. Really, not kidding – it’s the best. If you’re in the area, let me know and I’ll give you some great suggestions. One thing we don’t have in this area is great Mexican food.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some good places to get it but they are not abundant. In Texas, the reverse is true. So, I didn’t want to pass by my opportunity to get some good Mexican food.

We stopped at Chuy’s. It was a little crowded but there wasn’t a wait – thank goodness. They gave us a basket of chips and two bowls of salsa. There’s nothing I love more than some good chips and salsa – yum!

They also have someone there making tortillas. It’s so fun for kids (and me) to watch. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize it until the end so it didn’t have its full effect but if you go, check it out in the beginning of your visit.

I looked over the menu and decided on one of the “big as your face” burritos. I was going to get the “Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom” but I couldn’t justify getting an entrée just because Leah and I love that book.

The service seemed just a bit slow although our waitress was very nice. We placed our order and waited a bit. The three adults got our meals but we had to wait and wait for my daughter’s. Finally, they brought it out to us.

This is one of the worst gaffes, I think. A three year-old doesn’t understand why everyone else has their food but she doesn’t.

Lots of time, a place will bring a child’s meal first, which I really appreciate. Then I can get her started and by the time my meal comes, I can eat it without (too much) interruption. Also, little ones take so long to eat, it doesn’t mess up the timing of everyone else finishing.

My burrito was not quite as big as my face but it was good. And, here is what made the restaurant awesome, the sauce. You can order from a variety of sauces. Check them out here – totally fun, right?

I got the Creamy Jalapeno. OMG – this sauce is delicious! It’s like the kind of sauce you could put on anything and it would taste good. I’m not even kidding. You could put this on anything and eat it. Don’t try daring me either, just trust me – it’s good!

I would recommend Chuy’s – just for the Creamy Jalapeno sauce alone!

Here’s what I loved:

  • the Creamy Jalapeno sauce
  • chips and salsa
  • tortilla making

Here’s what I liked:

  • the food
  • the atmosphere

Here’s what I didn’t love:

  • the service
Have you been to Chuy’s?
Did you have the sauce?

  1. I LOVE Chuy’s, it’s our favourite place for Mexican food, and although the food isn’t the BEST Mexican food around, it’s still our favourite. The atmosphere and the margaritas make up for it! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE that creamy sauce!! I often fill up on chips and creamy sauce before dinner even arrives! ❤ Chuys!!
