Let’s Eat: Cabby Shack, Plymouth

After we toured Mayflower II, we were ready for dinner. We decided to try Cabby Shack. That’s not a typo. It’s Cabby not Crabby. Even though I kept calling it “Crabby Shack” it really is Cabby Shack!

When we got there, we decided we wanted to sit outside, so there was a wait. Not a problem, they have two huge bars (one outside and one inside). We grabbed a few chairs, ordered a few drinks, and enjoyed waiting for our table.

They have outside seating downstairs and upstairs. They took us to the upstairs area. What a difference a flight of stairs makes! It was so windy and chilly up there. I’m not being overly dramatic here. You needed a real jacket but we did have a nice view of the water.

This place has also been featured on The Food Network. Beau MacMillian chose their Clam Chowdah as his favorite guilty pleasure on The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Of course, we had to try it.

It wasn’t great. It wasn’t the best thing I ever ate, for sure but, it was good. We also got an appetizer of little neck clams. These actually came with the necks still attached. OMG, gross! I’m sorry to offend any who loves those but I have NEVER seen that before and it was not pretty. I give a thumbs completely down to them.

My daughter had been on a hot dog kick but we talked her into getting a grilled cheese, which was fine. For some reason, I was feeling so full. I decided to get a salad. I tried the Niko Salad, which was also fine.

My husband got the Calamari Diavolo, which was spicy calamari. He liked it. My son tried the Marinated Sirloin Tips. My son won for best dish of the night and he ate it all.

The service was a tiny bit slow but nothing bad enough to complain. When we finished, we went back downstairs and almost ran into the guy, Brendan Ryan, playing acoustic guitar and singing. My daughter stopped immediately. I think she fell in love. Check the picture.

He was so sweet too. He played a song for her and danced with her. It was adorable. I won’t bore you with the video though.

Here’s what I loved:

  • the atmosphere
  • Brendan Ryan

Here’s what I liked:

  • the Marinated Sirloin Tips

Here’s what I didn’t love:

  • the food
  • the service (although not horrible, I didn’t love it)
  • little neck clams

Have you been to the Cabby Shack?
What did you think?

Also, do you think I could get Brendan Ryan
to come play at her birthday party (maybe when she’s 16)?
