It’s Too Hot, Let’s Go Bowling!

It has been really hot this summer – don’t you think? My daughter is not a hot weather girl. As soon as she is outside in the sun, she is looking for shade. Once we were on a picnic bench (in the sun) eating ice cream. She got up from the table (with her ice cream) and went a bit away so she could sit under a shady tree.

Needless to say, I’ve been looking for some cool, inside things to do. One of the first things that came to mind was – bowling!

So, we went!

Once we got there, we handed in one shoe and received our beautiful bowling shoes. I thought Leah might complain a bit about wearing the bowling shoes but she put them on without any issue. I love the bowling shoes today because they are velcro now! I think lace up shoes are becoming like dinosaurs. Soon you’ll only be able to see them in a museum.

They gave us a lane with bumpers, which I would have requested even if the kids weren’t with me. I stink at bowling. It’s one of those things I think I should be good at but when it comes time to do it – no go. It’s Gutter Ball City for me. Have you ever been?

Unfortunately, our lane was next to a bunch of crazy kids. They were from a summer camp so there was one adult for five or so kids. Ugh!

It didn’t matter much though. About four frames into it, Leah was over it. She kept going but she was just going through the motions without much effort. Seriously. I know this because she threw her ball with such lack of emotion, it got stuck.

It didn’t seem like a problem, the thing kept working. So we kept playing. The next ball she threw, stuck. Right at the end of the gutter, two balls, just sitting there. But, the thing kept working so we kept playing. Then, it stop working. Well, not really stopped – it kept going but we weren’t throwing any balls. It was just giving us all zeros for each frame. I stink but I can get a little bit better than zero pins!

The girl at the counter was so nice and friendly. She didn’t seem to mind that she had to walk down the balance beam in between the lanes to “un-stick” the balls. We finished up and that was it.

Oh no, wait. They have an arcade too. What fun! Oh and guess what? It’s one of those arcades that gives you tickets so you can spend $10 for a bouncy ball that cost 10 cents. Big time fun!

We played a few games and got a few tickets. So few that Leah could only get a dum-dum lollipop. There were two sweet teenage girls there who then gave Leah their tickets. Wasn’t that the sweetest thing. Guess what she was able to get then? Two dum-dum lollipops. Yippee!

It was a fun time, though! Bowling is a great activity to do when it’s hot outside. I think we’ll wait until Leah is a little older to go again with her but my older son had a great time.

Have you been bowling this year?
Did you rock those shoes?
